A group of 140 volunteers with the World Mission Society Church of God Young Adult Workers cleaned the Rillito River at the Alvernon Bridge Sunday.

Volunteers removed litter from the waterways, and will have an educational poster display explaining information about the impact of garbage in the oceans, rivers and deserts.

The cleanup was from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and started at Paradise Falls Drive and Alvernon Way.

Volunteers say they picked 4,460 pounds of trash out of the wash.

Tucson Clean & Beautiful will also partner will the group for volunteer stewardship efforts in the Tucson metropolitan area.
