Here are this week's hottest home video releases:
Isle of Dogs
Quirky writer/director Wes Anderson dives back into the animated realm once again for a dry, witty comedy in the vein of "Fantastic Mr. Fox" (2009). Bryan Cranston, Bill Murray, Edward Norton and Frances McDormand make up a stellar voice cast for a tale of a dystopian future in which dogs have been relegated to an island filled with trash. Sly, subtle humor pulses throughout the well-crafted effort. Extras look at various angles of the filmmakers' intensive stop-motion animation process.
Overboard
Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez headline this uneven comedy, a remake of the 1987 Kurt Russell-Goldie Hawn romp. Faris plays a struggling single mom who takes advantage of an amnesiac millionaire (Derbez), convincing him that he's a blue collar worker who is married to him. The slapstick humor and sight gags wear thin, leaving Faris stranded with little to work with. For my full review, click here. Extras include featurettes on the cat's chemistry, as well as filmmaker commentary.
Rampage
Dwayne Johnson stars in an action flick that lives up to its name, manage to conjure an exciting romp out of a thin premise from a 1980s arcade game. Genetic editing run amok creates a trio of Godzilla-sized creatures who stomp buildings, smash vehicles and threaten to fall under the control of nefarious human forces. It's up to the Rock to save the world, as usual. Dazzling effects and a punchy script keep things moving. For my full review, click here. Deleted scenes, a gag reel and a look at the effects round out the extras.
