Being a night owl can endanger your health, according to researchers from the University of Surrey in England and Northwestern University in Chicago.

Researchers looked at data from nearly half a million adults over six and a half years and found that people who went to bed later and got up later had higher incidences of psychological disorders, diabetes, neurological disorders, gastrointestinal problems and respiratory conditions.

They also had a 10 percent increased risk of death.

Other studies have linked the association between late bedtimes and poorer health to a greater risk of depression, drug use and negative lifestyle behaviors like eating an unhealthy, fatty diet.
