TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Twenty-one Arizona school districts and one charter school will receive state funding to buy diesel and alternative fuel school buses, in the latest distribution of money from a settlement with Volkswagen for modifying vehicles to cheat on emissions tests and deceiving customers.
Gov. Doug Ducey's office announced Friday the distribution of $8.4 million for 76 buses, including $3.5 million to Tucson Unified School District for 35 buses.
Another Tucson-area district, Sunnyside Unified, is receiving $990,000 for nine buses. Glendale Elementary, Apache Junction Unified and Roosevelt Elementary are each getting funding for five buses.
Ducey last June announced the $38 million funding plan and later awarded $15.9 million to 55 school districts and charter schools for 142 buses.
Ducey's office said a third wave of awards is planned.
