TUCSON, Ariz. - A Marana Unifed School District bus driver resigned after a photo surfaced of beer on the bus.
According to the district, the driver bought the beer while off duty, and no students were onboard when the driver bought the beer. Still, the presence of beer on school property violated district policy.

On Friday, December 14, 2018, the Marana Unified School District Transportation Department was notified by a staff member of a single picture posted on social media of a school bus, number #257, with what appeared to be beer boxes inside the doorway. District Administration immediately began a review into this matter. It was quickly determined that the picture was a Marana Unified School District bus - bus 257. The bus driver had purchased the beer, while off duty, in route home. At no time were their students on the bus with alcohol present. The bus driver did not transport students following the purchase of the alcohol. District Policy states that the manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use, on or in the workplace, of alcohol is prohibited. The workplace includes any school buildings, or any school premises and any school-owned vehicle. The bus driver resigned his position and is no longer employed with the Marana Unified School District. The community member in possession of the photo(s)/video posted on social media and shared with the media has not contacted the Marana Unified School District.
