TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona has announced that a program dedicated to teaching Mandarin and providing Chinese cultural education opportunities will close.

The Arizona Daily Star reported that the university cited unspecified changes in federal laws and policy for the the decision to close the branch of the Confucius Institute in Tucson on July 31.

University officials say the program brought Chinese culture to university and public school students by teaching language, health and wellness and performing arts.

Arizona State University and colleges in Kentucky, Kansas and Maryland previously announced plans to cut ties with the Chinese program.
