TUCSON, Ariz. — One of Tucson's most popular outdoor destinations is the latest closure amid the global coronavirus pandemic.
Tumamoc Hill will close to the public at noon Wednesday, "for an undetermined period of time, as a safety precaution in response to the global coronavirus pandemic," a University of Arizona news release said.

UArizona officials worry the hill is too big a public gathering place, and could further the spread of the virus.
"As a core gathering site for so many Tucsonans, Tumamoc Hill also unfortunately has the potential to be a prime vector for spread," said Joaquin Ruiz, University of Arizona vice president for global environmental futures.
There's no date set for when Tumamoc Hill will reopen to the public.
