TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Interscholastic Association is recommending postponing the start of the winter sports season due to the COVID-10 pandemic.
The recommendation is to start the season in January, after two weeks of mandatory practice before competition begins. Winter sports include basketball, wrestling and soccer.
The organization made the recommendation to the AIA's Executive Board for consideration. AIA Executive Director David Hines will meet with state health and education officials about the rising rate of infections across the state.
Hines will share the information with the executive board, which will vote on whether to postpone the season's start.
Practice for the winter sports season started Nov. 9, and will continue until further notice.
