UPDATE: TPD detains suspect in Southside homicide

Another suspect has been detained in the 13th and Drexel incident, according to a TPD press release.

After collecting witness statements and forensic evidence, detectives identified the second suspect, 46-year-old Gabriel Duran. On June 28, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Duran for one count of 1st Degree Murder, taking him into custody on July 2.

On the night of June 21, Tucson Police were dispatched near 12th and Ajo, when they arrived they found an adult male dead at the scene.

An investigation is underway, and TPD says they have all parties involved in custody.

In a separate incident, the SWAT team along with TPD were called in relation to a shooting and aggravated assault near 13th and Drexel.

One man was pronounced dead at that scene, he has been identified as 22-year-old Ray Bernal Jr.

Through interviews and evidence located at the scene, detectives learned that Mr. Bernal was involved in a fight with another man prior to the shooting.

Detectives gathered information that led them to identify the suspect as 35-year-old Daniel Gonzales.

With the help of the Tucson Police Department SWAT Team, he was taken into custody.

Mr. Gonzalez was arrested and booked into Pima County Jail on the charges of First-Degree Murder and Kidnapping.
