UPDATE: Man shot near Northside parking lot on New Year's Day dies from injuries

UPDATE (3:15 p.m., Jan. 2):

A man transported to the hospital after being shot on North First Avenue, on New Year's Day has been identified as 23-year-old Ariel Aurielo Guarista.

Guarista died several hours later, according to a news release from Tucson Police Department.

Guarista was shot at just before 2:30 a.m. while near a parking lot on North First Avenue, north of Grant Road. TPD said detectives are investigating what led to the gunfire and the identity of the involved suspects.

Additional forensic testing is pending, the news release said. Anyone with information is asked to call 9-1-1 or 88CRIME.

The Tucson Police Department confirmed a shooting left a man with life-threatening injuries at 1st Ave and Jacinto.

The shooting took place at 2:30 a.m.

According to TPD, an adult male sustained life-threatening injuries.

"No arrests at the moment and the investigation is underway." TPD said.
