Police say they’re investigating after what appear to be the remains of a child were found during construction of a new home in Phoenix, KNXV reports.

Investigators were seen at the home near 87th Avenue and Indian School Road Tuesday. Police say the remains were first found around 1:30 p.m.

Police say homicide detectives are now investigating the remains.

No ID has been given for the child, and no age range has been given. Police spokesman Sgt. Vince Lewis said the remains appeared to be much younger than recent high-profile missing persons cases in the West Valley.

It is "too soon" to determine whether the remains belong to a specific individual, he said, saying a lot of work will have to go into making an identification.

"There are thousands of open missing persons cases as well as unidentified bodies in Arizona. Each new find has potential for closing one of those open cases," Sgt. Lewis said. "It is definitely on our minds, but it will likely take time to make any such connections."
