TUCSON, Ariz. — TUSD is discussing with the board tonight about potential clusters of COVID cases in a school or nearby neighborhood.

KGUN9 asked the district whether a certain number of cases — a threshold — could cause a school campus to close.

The district told KGUN9 the amount of spread of COVID certainly is a concern regarding the school as well as well as its community boundaries.

Spokesperson Karla Escamilla said a guiding metrics explaining COVID spread will be presented by the AZ Department of Health Services on August 7th.

Escamilla said the district “will be taking our guidance from our local health department from this metrics. A risk analysis tool that is being developed is being introduced at tonight's Governing Board Meeting describing proposed action taken when a school is unable to maintain a certain student to teacher ratio in a school for reasons of absenteeism, illness, or both, that may lead to the consideration of a school closure.”
