Preservationists held a ‘vigil’ for buildings slated to be demolished as part of a street widening project on Broadway.
People gathered Sunday evening along Broadway at Highland Ave., west of Campbell Ave., to show their displeasure with what they believe is irresponsible growth by the city.
“It is so eager to throw [existing homes] aside for the latest shiny thing,” said Les Pierce, President of the Arroyo Chico Resident Association. “In this case the shiny new thing being widening the road.”
Project supporters at Tucson City Hall say this project will help reduce commute times by expanding Broadway from four to six lanes between Country Club and Euclid.
