It's been almost 30 years since Seinfeld first graced our screens, but it still has legions of fans, has become a TV classic and it inspired the new book Seinfeldia: How a Show About Nothing Changed Everything. Author Jennifer Keishin Armstrong is taking a look at five other things you didn't know about the hit series.
1. Real Kramer
Cosmo Kramer was based on creator Larry David's real neighbor, Kenny Kramer. He even lived right across the hall just like the show. They paid him off a little bit to use his name and he even auditioned to get the role of Kramer on the show himself. Obviously he didn't land the part, but he's now giving "Kramer's Reality Tours" in New York City.
2. The Soup Nazi
Actor Larry Thomas played the character and still travels the world making appearances as The Soup Nazi. The craziest part is he was only featured in one episode and made a small cameo in the finale.
3. J. Peterman
Elaine's boss J. Peterman, played by John O'Hurley, was inspired by a real guy named John Peterman who has a catalog company that's very much like the one the character runs on the show. You can still go to the website jpeterman.com and order goods.
4. Elain’s Famous Dance
Her dance was inspired by SNL creator Lorne Michaels. A former employee of his wrote the TV icon's dance into an episode.
5. Festivus
Many people actually celebrate this holiday on Dec. 23. It’s recognized by the state of Florida and you can buy your own gear online. HAPPY FESTIVUS!
