Is thee ready for thy quest?
Medieval Times is looking for knights to joust, fight with swords, and compete in games while, at times, riding on horseback at its Arizona castle, which is expected to open this summer.
The dinner theater will hold an open casting call on Thursday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott Scottsdale Salt River, 5201 N. Pima Road in Scottsdale, according to its website .
Knights will train for three months at Chapel Creek Ranch, a 230-acre ranch in Dallas, Texas, where they will learn how to take care of a horse, how to ride a horse, weapon training, performance and choreography, among other skills, a news release said. Previous horse-riding experience is not required.
"About 80 percent of our Knights have never ridden before," said Tim Baker, the director of stunts, choreography and equestrian programs for Medieval Times, in a statement. "And we’re using Andalusians and Friesians – huge, powerful animals with a mind of their own."
Those with experience in organized sports or martial arts may learn faster, but they are looking for people who listen and can work as a team, he said. They are looking for men who are at least 18 and in "good physical condition."
Women are not cast for this role, a spokesperson said. Female roles, which include the Queen, falconer, master of horse, and stable staff, will be staffed at a later date.
Medieval Times said its purebred Andalusian horses are bred and born at the ranch.
The 79,000-square-foot castle and 1,000-seat arena are under construction on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community within the Talking Stick Resort Entertainment District near the Loop 101 and Via de Ventura.
