While March might not seem like a particularly fruitful month for deals, that’s not the case. With spring cleaning on everyone’s minds, Easter coming at the end of the month, and Pi Day on March 14, there’s plenty of more to buy than you might think.

From spring cleaning products to organization must-haves to yes, pie, here are the items you really should buy in March, if you want to get them for the best price.

St. Patrick’s Day Essentials

If you plan to host a St. Patrick’s Day party (or dress up for a parade) this March 17, wait until the month begins to snag your green top hat or shamrock throw pillows. Stores like Amazon and Walmart know you’ll be looking for green apparel and decor, and they’ll discount some of these items as the holiday approaches.

And don’t forget your furry friends! Petco and Petsmart will no doubt be putting some St. Patrick’s Day-themed outfits and treats on sale for them, too.

As with all holidays, the best St. Patrick’s-themed sales will happen in the days following March 17. So if you’ve been longing for a green sweater or scarf, the third week of March is the best time to shop.

Vacuum Cleaners

Vacuum on sale

$195 (was $350) at Walmart

In many parts of the country, March is the start of allergy season. As tree pollen falls to the ground, getting tracked inside and onto our carpets, lots of people start thinking about spring cleaning. The good news? March is a great month to get a deal on a vacuum cleaner!

As you seek out the best vacuum for you, look to retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target and Best Buy for discounts this month. There are already some great deals to be had, like this Dyson Omni-Glide Cordless Vacuum, which is selling for $155 off.

Pi Day Deals

Pi Day falls on March 14, naturally. And some restaurants like to celebrate by pricing certain pies (especially pizza pies) at $3.14. Uno Pizzeria and Grill tends to sell individual thin-crust cheese or pepperoni pizzas for $3.14. And Domino’s, Papa John’s, Marco’s and Jet’s have pi-related discounts, too. In the past, 7-Eleven has sold a pizza for $3.14.

Fast food restaurants like Bojangles and Boston Market have also been known to offer special deals, and Honey Baked Ham has taken $3.14 off one of their pies (and will probably do so again).

Luggage and Travel Gear

luggage sale

$56 (was $120) at Amazon

March is the month when luggage manufacturers begin rolling out their newest models. So the luggage already on the shelf gets discounted to make room for the upcoming styles.

Check department stores like Macy’s and Kohl’s for deals. You can also find discounts on suitcases and other travel gear like backpacks at Amazon and Walmart.

This highly-rated Rockland London Hardside Spinner Wheel Luggage is already over 50% off at Amazon, selling for just $57.

Winter Apparel and Sports Items

$14 (was $55) at Kohl’s

Sporting goods stores start moving out their winter merchandise in March, so now’s a good time to check with stores like Dick’s Sporting Goods for ski and snowboarding gear and apparel. March 19 is the first day of spring, and retailers will be slashing prices on cold-weather running clothes and accessories like fleece jackets and windbreakers.

Kohl’s has already started putting winter apparel on clearance, such as this Women’s Tek Gear® Hooded Mixed-Media Jacket, which is selling for about a quarter of the original price.

Space Heaters

As your need for a space heater subsides, so will the price of a new one. That’s why March is a great time to snap one up and have it ready for next winter.

Ready to buy? Start by reviewing our picks for the best space heaters. Then look for deals at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Best Buy, Walmart or Amazon.

Craft Supplies

paint pens

$20 (was $30) at Walmart

March is National Craft Month, and retailers will try to attract DIY art enthusiasts with deals on art kits, paper cutters, paint markers, crafting glue and more. Look to stores like Michael’s to offer a month-long slate of free crafting classes for activities like painting, beading and T-shirt decorating.

Walmart is already slashing prices on craft supplies. These water-based Uni Posca Paint Markers are $10 off and now selling for just $20.

Easter Sales

The last week of March leads right into Easter this year, and that means you’ll start seeing deals on spring dresses, Easter candy, pastel-colored baskets and bunny decor. Of course, for the best deals on these items, the first week of April (right after the holiday) is your best bet.

Easter sales tend to start “springing up” about a month ahead of the holiday. The closer you get to the big day, the more department stores like Belk, Macy’s and JCPenney will slash prices on Easter decor and apparel. Look for deals on Easter candy at Target, Walmart and Amazon.

Lawn and Garden

string trimmer

$54 (was $64) at Amazon

It’s warming up out there! Time to get back outside to care for your lawn and landscape. If your grass is looking a little rough around the edges, you may need one to get it back in shape.

You’ve got a lot of options in string trimmers, starting with whether you want an electric or gas-powered one. You can also find deals on lawn mowers and other lawn maintenance tools at retailers like Home Depot.

Floor Sample Mattresses

Mattress stores start bringing in the latest inventory in March. They need to move out the older models, and the ones on the showroom floor certainly have to go fast.

Do you mind buying a mattress that others have tried out in the store? How about if you got it at a very deep discount? Stop by your latest Mattress Firm store and you might find yourself scoring an excellent deal.
