10th ranked Arizona softball won it's season opener for the 8th year in a row, defeating Fordham University 8-1 at Hillenbrand Stadium on Thursday night.  This, kicking off the Hillenbrand Invitiational on the U of A campus.

The Wildcats plated 8 runs on 9 hits, as senior ace Danielle O'Toole allowed only one hit to her final 23 batters.  Katiyana Mauga blasted her 68th career homerun tonight, one of two RBI on the night for her.

Fordham started the game with three consecutive singles to take an early 1-0 lead, but O'Toole was able to limit the damage after half an inning.

Fordham had played #21 Baylor earlier in the day, picking up a win, but committed three errors leading to a pair of unearned runs for Arizona.

Adding three runs in the third, led by Mauga's homerun, Tamara Statman followed with a 2-out, 2-run pinch hit single to give the Cats a 6-1 lead.

Next up, Arizona continues the Hillenbrand Invitational, facing Cal State Northridge at 5 pm on Friday.
