Saguaros manager J.D. Droddy's path to the Tucson Saguaros dugout has been anything but conventional.
Droddy spent 20 twenty years in the Air Force.
"The 20 years I was in seemed like a long time but the 30 years since seems like it went so quickly," said, Droddy.
And, after flying 44 combat missions in Vietnam, Droddy later attended Harvard Law School.
He's been a college professor, wrote plays, and became a self taught composer.
A longtime baseball fan, Droddy was a host for Pecos League players. That led him to the Pecos League ballffiled, and his first managerial job.
"As a manager in the Air Force, I manage people this age," said Droddy. I think I can relate to them. Maybe that helped."
Droddy is now the manager for the Tucson Saguaros in their inaugural season.
