Students at La Paloma Academy are taking a fighting stance against bullying.

Weekly Taekwondo classes teach students self-defense and self-respect so they can stand up to bullies.

"The people that tend to get bullied are usually a bit timid, a little scared, and so they tend to stand a little taller, feel a little bit better about themselves," told KGUN9

And the class can stop students from becoming bullies in the first place.

"Martial arts is a really good place for teaching kids not to be bullies because it builds up self-confidence in them so they don't feel the need to harm other people," Travis Peltier, the class's Taekwondo teacher told KGUN9.

These lessons can translate to the classroom as well.

"They tend to focus more, they listen better, and they actually get higher grades," Peltier told KGUN9.

Lessons aside, students say the class is just plain fun!
