Tucson police are investigating a homicide in midtown Thursday.

Police say two men were shot to death in the 4600 block of East Montecito following a fight. Another man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The deceased males have been identified as 20-year-old Eugenio Pesqueira and 21-year-old Jose Pichardo.

Sgt. Pete Dugan says there was a gathering at the home and some visitors were outside when the two men arrived.

Pesqueira and Pichardo pulled out their guns and exchanged fired with someone at the home.

Neighbors in the area say they heard between 10 and 20 shots ring out. "it took me a few minutes to look out my window I was afraid whatever was happening as happening in my driveway," says Joel Ivester.

The two people shot and killed on the scene were planning a home invasion, said Dugan.

The man in the hospital was visiting the home at the time of the shooting. Police say the man is now in stable but critical condition.

The Gang Unit is investigating the shooting and homicide.
