The legendary rock band KISS gave a special salute to our troops in Tucson on Independence Day.

The rockers kicked off the Freedom to Rock tour at the Casino del Sol Ava Amphitheatre on Monday. There was a 5-minute tribute during the concert for military service members.

The band has partnered with Hiring Our Heroes to bring on a roadie for the day. The non-profit works to find veterans jobs. Lt. Colonel Mellyora Crawford was chosen for the show Monday. She is stationed at Fort Huachuca.

Crawford spent the day doing sound checks, and was able to meet the band and snag an autograph. Crawford says she remembers seeing the band and hearing its music, and says the members were very down to earth.

Before the concert a flag ceremony was recorded at the golf course at the casino. Hundreds of volunteers helped display a massive flag, and the as the band came out fireworks were shot into the sky.

The video of the flag that was recorded in Tucson will be used to open each show on the band's 40 city tour.

KISS has also partnered with Vet Tix, to help veterans get discounted or free tickets to their shows.
