"What was Kay Read's fatal mistake? She opened the door for a man back in 2008 and it led to her death. Her last act of freewill on this planet was one of kindness," said prosecutor Jonathan Mosher.
Kay Read was 62-years-old when she disappeared from her Tucson home near Golf Links and Kolb on Feb. 15, 2008.
The prosecutor said that Read allowed Vargas into her home before being kidnapped.
Vargas' defense lawyer says much of the evidence didn't fit and asked the jury to question his guilt.
"All of that doesn't matter now. But if you're left with question, the answer is not guilty. Please find this man innocent ladies and gentlemen," said defense attorney Vladimir Novokshchenov.
