The Cochise County Sheriff's Office has reinstated a hard evacuation notice for the Cochise Stronghold.

The area starts at the intersection of North Cochise Stronghold and West Ironwood Road and everything south and west from that point.

According to Carol Capas with the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, there is personnel doing structure protection and fighting the southern edge of the fire which is making it difficult for residents to return home.

A pre-evacuation will remain for the area of Redhead south the Middlemarch Road and east to North Cochise Stronghold Road.

The Cochise County Emergency Operations Center will be closing, and any questions or concerns can be directed to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office at 520-432-9500. Cochise Stronghold residents will be notified when it is safe to return.

As of this morning, the Lizard Fire is 40 percent contained and has burned 15,131 acres. Lightning has been ruled as the cause of the fire.

The fire was reported on June 7.
