TUCSON, Ariz. — A driver was killed Saturday after his car plummeted into a canyon off the Catalina Highway Saturday.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department they first responded to the call at 11:36 p.m., when deputies saw that a car had broken through the guardrail along milepost 13. The car apparently drove off the side of a cliff into a canyon.

Tucson Police Department and PCSD helicopters were able to locate the car down in the canyon from the air. It took several hours for search and rescue crews to reach the vehicle due to foggy weather conditions and the dangerous terrain, PCSD said.

When crews finally reached the car, they found one driver inside -- 22-year-old Raymond Zamora -- who was pronounced dead at the scene.

PCSD says they believe impairment was a factor in the crash.
