TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Authorities responded to a car that had crashed into a power pole and caught flames on the northwest side Wednesday night.

Northwest Fire Capt. Adam Goldberg said a 45-year-old man was driving at the intersection of La Cholla and West Wetmore Road when he experienced a medical emergency, which caused him to strike the power pole.

The car hit the pole, then ended up on the opposite side of the road into a chain link fence where it caught fire, said Goldberg.

The fire extinguished while Northwest Fire crews were taking the man out of the vehicle.  He was treated at the scene.

Tucson Electric Power also responded to the scene.
