A woman and her 7-year-old son were killed in a deadly pedestrian-involved car wreck at Pima and Swan Wednesday morning.

They have been identified as 37-year-old Anna Mentzer, and her son, Ethan Mentzer.

Tucson police Sgt. Pete Dugan said the intersection was closed for several hours. The road reopened in the 12 p.m. hour.

The call came in at 7:30 a.m. The woman and her son were crossing Pima near Mountain View on their way to St. Cyril of Alexandria School where Ethan was a 2nd grader. Police say, they were walking in a marked crosswalk.

A silver four-door sedan headed eastbound on Pima hit both victims. The mother was pronounced dead at the scene, and the boy was pronounced dead at Banner University Medical Center just before 8 a.m.

The school held a prayer service for the mother and son.

"We've been taking care of one another today and we will hold each other as long as we need to get through this tragedy," says principal Dr. Ann Zeches.

The female driver, remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities. She showed no signs of impairment. It's not clear whether she will face charges.

So far in 2017, 24 pedestrians have been killed in accidents on Tucson's streets.

The mother, Anna has another son who is 10-years-old, according to a close family friend.

A GoFundMe account has been established for Anna and Ethan Mentzer.
