Crews are on scene in north Phoenix after a single-engine plane went down on a roadway after departing from Deer Valley Airport.
The incident occurred after noon near 19th Avenue and Deer Valley Road, just west of the airport.
Aerials showed the badly damaged plane in a brush area alongside the roadway.
There is no word yet on what caused the crash or the extent of injuries.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the pilot reported a mechanical problem shortly after departing from the airport, and indicated they would try to return to the facility.
Gregor said the plane went down about a half mile off the runway end, with two people on board.
